Mens Rea is a Latin 4 term which we use in laws to help determent if someone is really in the right mental state to commit the crime. Intent is someone's desire to carry out an action, someone's willingness to commit a crime. There are two different categories the first is general intent and the second is specific intent. General intent is the desire to commit a criminal act without no other purpose. For example punching someone. Specific intent is the desire to commit a criminal act for the sake of doing another. For example punching someone to and steeling there money.
Without the right mind set or the intent no one can be charged with a crime. Say if someone steels money for another, but you go to court for the crime it is more than likely that you will walk about with nothing to worry about. Since not only do you have no intent to commit the crime, but you also don't have the right mind set to commit the theft.
